about

Georgia Denham (b.1997) draws on a love of visual arts and anecdotal experience to create her music. She has written music for Darragh Morgan and Mary Dulea, Philip Thomas and Mira Benjamin, Decibel, the New European Ensemble, Birmingham Contemporary Music Group and Orkest de Ereprijs, and has been performed at The Minerva Festival,  Music We’d Like to Hear, Café Oto, and Leeds Lieder Festival. She studied compostion with Andrew Hamilton and Fumiko Miyachi at The Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, where she was awarded the Conservatoire Undergraduate Prize. In 2020, her piece for violin and piano, kindly, softly, was nominated for an Ivor Composer Award in the Solo or Duo category.

Having originally pursued vocal studies, Georgia is still actively involved in contemporary and experimental practice. Previously, she has performed with electronics at Supersonic Festival, Snape Maltings, Orgelpark Amsterdam, BEASTdome, KABK Den Haag and Fylkingen Stockholm. Georgia has also curated events for Ideas of Noise and Emulsion Festival, focussing on the celebration of new artists and transdisciplinary collaborations.

Georgia joined the Sound and Music New Voices 2020 cohort, offering tailored support and guidance. They have accompanied her through a rekindling of creative directions, the result of which will be the release of her debut EP of songs in Spring 2024. She is currently a PhD student with Richard Causton at the University of Cambridge, as a Harding Distinguished Postgraduate Scholar. She lives with her husband, a theoretical computer scientist, and is never far from the river.
